Chris Sanders

Chris Sanders has been a legend in my eyes for quite some time now. He's the mind behind Lilo & Stitch and has major influence in the making of How to train your dragon. His style is one of the most recognizable styles I've come across.

For a school project I had to make an illustration or something else in the style of my own design guru. Since they're Chris Sanders' inspiration and he thus made most of his illustrations in their image, I chose to illustrate my girlfriend as a mermaid in the style of Chris Sanders but with a little bit of me. I began by researching Chris Sanders' style. I then created the lines in black and white directly in Adobe Illustrator. The background is a water painting (this was a first for me) which I enriched in Photoshop. I then colored the mermaid and combined everything into a single illustration.

I also needed to make an interactive version of my design. I made a slider in which the user is able to combine parts of different mermaids (one by Chris Sanders, one by a fan, one random pinup mermaid and also my version of the mermaid). You can try it here
